Dr. Jay Lai is a versatile musician, educator, and ethnomusicologist dedicated to fostering a holistic and culturally rich learning experience. Her musical journey began at the piano at age five, forming the foundational discipline that eventually led her to international stages across Asia, Europe, and the United States.

With a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Dr. Lai brings a unique, global perspective to the piano. Her teaching integrates technical precision with intellectual growth, encouraging students to see music as a bridge between cultures. A Golden Melody Award nominee (Taiwan’s equivalent to the GRAMMYs), she has performed at prestigious venues like UNESCO’s World Heritage Festival and collaborated with avant-garde and traditional masters alike.
