Worldful of Pianos will focus on one of the most famous piano works ever written: Mozart’s Rondo alla turca. Five players selected in collaboration with the Lang Lang Foundation will perform two kaleidoscopic, five-piano arrangements of the piece (by Greg Anderson), filmed at the Steinway & Sons factory in New York City. They will then lead the public in a play-along performance during Believe In Music Week, over Zoom, of Mozart’s original composition.
Worldful of Pianos will take place on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 2:00 pm (California time).
Featured Pianists
We are honored to have five outstanding pianists leading this year’s Worldful of Pianos: Aliya Alsafa, Myron Brown, Maxim Lando, Blair McMillen, and Harmony Zhu.
Aliya, Maxim, and Harmony are all current or former Lang Lang Foundation “Young Scholars.”
Musical Director
Leading the performance is conductor Francisco J. Núñez, a MacArthur Fellow and Musical America’s 2018 Educator of the Year. Maestro Núñez is a composer, conductor, visionary, leading figure in music education, and the artistic director/founder of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, renowned worldwide for its diversity and artistic excellence. Since its founding in 1988, Mr. Núñez has created an awareness of the ability of young people to rise to unforeseen heights of artistry and recognition among composers of the child’s voice as an important instrument for making music. Mr. Núñez also leads the University Glee Club of New York City, its fifth conductor since the all-men’s chorus was established in 1894 and is sought after nationwide as a guest conductor by professional orchestras and choirs and as a master teacher.
